Young woman in HCM City seeks help for her ailing daughter
A young poor woman in HCM City is seeking the community help for her little daughter who is struggling with traumatic brain injury following an accident.
The mother, Le Thi Uyen Nhi, 24, is taking care of her two-year-old Tong My Nhu at Hoc Mon Hospital. Two weeks since being hospitalised, Nhu she remains unconscious.
Doctors had to conduct urgent surgery on Nhu right after she was taken to the hospital after falling off some stairs; she has seen very slow recovery but remains in critical condition. According to the doctors, despite their efforts to save her, they are not sure of her recovery.
Every day, the mother Le Thi Uyen Nhi has to leave Nhu at the hospital to go out to earn money for the treatment fees.
Nhi said that her family is very poor. Her father died and her mother re-married to another man. Over the past two years, she has limited contact with her mother.
Five years ago, when working at a restaurant in Tan Binh District, she met a Vietnamese-Chinese man whose has a stable job and his family is wealthy. They fell in love with each other and Nhi was pregnant. After that, she came to live with his family without holding a wedding.
Her husband’s family expected a nephew, but Nhi gave a birth to Nhu. Then, more than one year after Nhu was born; the couple had another daughter named Tong My Quynh.
Her parents-in-law got angry and suspected that Nhu was the daughter of another man, not their son. Her husband faced great pressures and then got drunk all the time. A short time after that her husband wanted to divorce her.
Nhi was expelled from her husband’s family when her second daughter was just four months old. Since then, her second daughter has lived with her husband, while she has taken care of the first daughter Tong My Nhu.
Over the past two years, she has worked different kinds of jobs to earn money and often brought her daughter to the workplaces.
Recently, her daughter fell down some stairs of a hotel where she worked cleaning.
In the difficult situation, she returned to her husband’s family for help, but they refused and insisted that Nhu was not their niece.
