Father with cancer struggles to take care of ill son
A father in Vinh Phuc Province who is struggling with lung cancer is in need of financial support to help cover treatment for his five-year-old son who has thalassemia.
Nguyen Van Hoa said he only wished for his son, Nguyen Manh Tung, to live on as his chance to survive was low.
"My son is still too small and doesn't understand anything yet so I don't talk to him about my illness. I only told him to be strong and happy even if I had to work far away. He keeps asking me where I will go to and why I don't take him with me," Hoa said.
Hoa's wife is very slow and almost can't do anything on her own. Despite his illness, Hoa still takes care of Tung.
Dr Vu Hai Toan said, "Tung will have to go to hospital for blood transfusions and chelation therapy for the rest of his life."
The tumour of Tung's father has spread and he has been taking chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions at Vietnam National Cancer Hospital. But recently, he decided to leave everything to fate as he can no longer borrow money from anywhere.
"I only worry about my son, whether he will be given regular treatments. We have nothing valuable to sell now, only a huge debt," Hoa said.
