DTiNews readers help fund classrooms in remote area
Dantri/DTiNews and donors on December 9 started construction of classrooms and rooms for teachers in the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang.
The VND825 million (USD37,500) project includes two classrooms, ten rooms for teachers and a meeting hall at Na Kieng nursery and primary school in Quang Lam Commune, Bao Lam District.
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from Cao Bang Province, Bao Lam District, DTiNews deputy editor-in-chief Pham Tuan Anh as well as teachers and pupils from Na Kieng nursery and primary school.
Na Kieng nursery and primary school’s classrooms had seriously deteriorated, and the houses allocated to the teachers were also in the same situation. Many teachers had to hire lodgings outside which cost them VND600,000 (USD27.3) per month.
After an article about the condition of the school was published on Dantri/DTiNews, many readers donated to the school, including Hoang Tuan beauty salon which donated VND825,000 million (USD37,300).
Speaking at the ceremony, deputy editor-in-chief Pham Tuan Anh said teachers and pupils at the school had to face severe difficulties over the past year. He added that this was the 16th classroom project supported by DTiNews readers across the country.
Bui Manh Anh from Hoang Tuan beauty salon said that the salon would strictly co-operate with DTiNews on the project’s implementation.
Nguyen Ngoc Quang, vice chairman of Bao Lam District People’s Committee, said the district had 991 classrooms, but 253 were temporary and in poor condition.
Deputy editor-in-chief Pham Tuan Anh also granted scholarships to 20 pupils at the school with each worth VND500,000 (USD22.7).
