Ill family calls for help for son with heart-disease
A family in Can Tho City is in need of help to treat their son suffering from heart diseases who weighs only 12kg despite being 10 years old.
Nguyen Van Kha, Van's husband, has disc herniation and glaucoma. He hasn't had the chance to find treatment and works at an iron workshop to support the family. Van has polyarthritis and low calcium. She sends two of their children to grandparents' house while selling banana cakes for VND60,000 (USD2.64) a day.
Their youngest son, Nguyen Dang Khoi, has a hand deformity. Luckily, he was given a free operation when foreign doctors recently visited Can Tho University Of Medicine And Pharmacy Hospital.
Their 10-year-old son Nguyen Van Tuong has pulmonary valve stenosis and mitral incompetence. He weighs 12kg and faints frequently. The family has to borrow money to admit him to HCM City Children's Hospital 1 but it was not enough.
Tuong also has a medical condition, when sailing a boat with his father he suddenly had a seizure and fell into the river. The neighbours then helped to bring him to hospital.
"Tuong likes studying very much. When he was six years old, I brought him to several schools but no school wanted to admit him because he was too frail," Van said.
