Tragic life of blind woman in Ha Tinh
A woman in the central province of Ha Tinh has become blind for many years after being attacked with acid. Now, her family is facing a big debt following her treatment.
Nguyen Thi Luong, who was ever a teacher, is now living with a deformed face. She said that she was attacked with acid at one night in 2006 while she was sleeping soundly.
“Someone splashed acid onto my face through an open window near my bed," Luong remembered. "I became unconscious for a week and even many people thought that I could die. When I woke up, I couldn’t see anything, except the darkness,” she said.
At that time, Luong did not accept the fact that she was blind as she still wanted to be a teacher. Her parents tried to get loans from different sources to cover her treatment. From 2006 to 2012, They took their daughter to different hospitals in Hanoi and HCM City, but her condition did not improve.
Luong has gone to Singapore three times for the treatment, costing nearly VND600 million (USD27,272), but she has remained blind.
Then after that, she decided to have a child with a man so that she can have a child to rely on in the future. Despite facing the shortage of breast milk, her daughter is well.
Luong’s family is facing a debt of around VND300 million (USD13,636) and they do not have any way of repaying the money.
