Vo Dong Duc, 66, years old in Dong Xuan District’s Xuan Son Nam Commune is living with her daughter Vo Thi Hang and two maternal grandchildren, one 12 years old and the other eight. 

Hang's family needs support 

Duc has been paralysed for two years due to stroke, causing him to be bed-ridden all the time, while her daughter Vo Thi Hang, 28, has been suffering from congenital heart problems. Hang who can’t do hard work has to stay at home to take care of her father.

The family has become more difficult after Hang’s eight-year-old was involved in a traffic accident, leaving him with a serious injury to his right foot. Hang said that after the accident, the family was so poor to afford the treatment, worsening his condition. As a result, the child only has one toe left on his right foot.

The poor woman also has to take care of her 12-year-old nephew whose mother died one year ago.

The family now lives on the monthly subsidy of VND675,000 (USD30.7) for poor households. Every day after returning home from school, the two children catch fish and crabs to support the family.
