The ball and shirt were signed by Vietnam’s U23 football team and presented to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc after the team returned from the 2018 AFC U-23 Championship. However, he asked ministries of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and Information and Communications to organise a public auction. On the final day of the auction on February 11, FLC Group won the items with a VND20 billion bid.

Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Chairman of FLC Group Trinh Van Quyet, U23 team and coach Park Hang Seo attended the ceremony.

Phuc applauded the ministries, VTV, individuals and organisations that organised the event and praised kind gestures for the poor. According to Phuc, there are children in Gia Lai Province who want to join in the auction with their allowances, a villager in Kon Tum Province want to participate with one hectare of rubber plants and a retired man in Dong Nai Province want to exchange his land for the ball and shirt.

Leaders of 20 provinces were asked to use the money to build 500 houses and ensure the project's transparency. The ministries of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and local authorities were asked to continue implementing social policies for the poor and people with meritorious services to the revolution and their next of kin.

Phuc said that the local football scene would continue developing with fewer scandals. He also believed that the spirit of unity would spread and make Vietnam stronger.
