Hoang Duc Thang is suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee and his health is degenerating quickly. One leg is shorter than the other and he can hardly straighten his leg or walk freely now.

Dr Nguyen Tien Ngoc from Vietnam-Germany Hospital said Thang was admitted over a week ago.
"Only his 78-year-old grandmother is with him. His mother left him two years ago and his father died of lung cancer just over three months ago. He has suffered pain for over a year but his family couldn't afford to bring him to the hospital. His treatment will be long. He'll need surgery and rehabilitation," Ngoc said.
Nguyen Thi Thanh from the hospital's social office said they were calling for donations for Thang.
Despite the pain, Thang rarely cries and is an obedient boy.
Nguyen Thi Huong, Thang's grandmother, said, "He felt pain in his leg over a year ago. I thought that he had fallen and hurt his leg. I also brought him to medical centres but they didn't detect anything. Then his father fell sick and died so quickly. Now I don't know where to borrow money for him."
The grandmother said she was thinking about taking her grandson home as she doesn't have the money for his treatment.
