The father and his 10-year-old daughter in Ha Giang Province who are both suffering from leukaemia have received nearly VND1bn (USD44,000) from Dantri/DTiNews reader after their story was published.

Phan Van Vu and his daughter, Phan Tra My, are both diagnosed with leukaemia one year after another and transferred to the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion in Hanoi. At first, Vu refused the treatment because he didn't have money.

My was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. While taking care of his daughter in hospital, Vu also bruised easily and suddenly vomited blood. He was also diagnosed with cancer not long after that.

"She has been in the hospital for a year so she is sensitive and knows that I'm sick. Sometimes, she asked whether I would die before her. Last year I can still work to help pay for her treatment but not now," Vu said.

He then asked to stop his treatment with the hope that he can save his daughter somehow.

Many people have visited them in hospital and gave them money to treat the illness.

Ly Thi Hao, head of the social work office at the hospital, said, "We want to thank everyone. You helped out the patients here a great deal. Not just Vu, other patients in the hospitals were also given hundreds of millions of VND. Vu has reacted well to the chemotherapy sessions."

Vu said he was shocked at the huge amount of money and thanked everyone that helped his family. Luckily, both Vu and his daughter do not need bone marrow transplant so the donated money is enough for their long-term treatment.
