Mother helpless as both children struggle with illnesses

A young woman in Ninh Binh Province is calling for financial support to help treat her two small children who are both suffering from serious diseases.

29-year-old Pham Thi Huong said she didn't dare to let others know about her situation but this time, she faces a dead end. "My children will die if they are not treated. I used up all my courage to write this letter to call for help but I kept ruining it while crying," she said.

Her daughter, Nguyen Thi Phuong Vy, is six years old but only weighs 6kg. Huong said she was happy while being pregnant but for the past six years, her daughter has never been able to call her mom because she has cerebral palsy.

She had hoped that her second child, Nguyen Le Thuy, would be healthy but unfortunately, Huong was heartbroken when her daughter was diagnosed with hydrocephalus and meningocele upon birth. Thuy had to be operated immediately when she hadn't been fed by her mother and her head has deformed.

"Why can't I take all the pain for my children? I wish I can die in exchange for them," Huong said. "She has had several operations and needs two illnesses treated at the same time. I borrowed from everywhere I could and I don't know what to do now."

Huong said she only over VND100,000 (USD4) left which is not enough for another operation.
