Pham Thi Lanh, 36, in Xuan Ngoc Commune, Xuan Truong District has been taking care of her daughter for nearly ten years. Lanh said that her boyfriend abandoned her while she was pregnant. 

Pham Thi Lanh is on the verge of health due to heart failure

Over the past years, she has tried her best to look after her daughter.

She felt her health problems many years ago, however, because of financial difficulties; she did not go to hospital. Recently, a group of doctors came to her village to provide free examinations. Doctors diagnosed that her heart condition as critical and in need of urgent surgery.

Coming to Hanoi Heart Hospital for checks, she had only VND200,000 (USD9) which was not enough to cover the fees. So, doctors there donated VND2 million for the treatment.

She has nothing besides her 10-year-old daughter.  

Her family is so poor to afford the surgery 

The operation will cost around VND84 million (USD3,818). She was totally powerless as she did not know how to raise such a large amount of money.

According to doctors, she needs an urgent operation as the risk of death is increasing.

Lanh even lacked enough money for daily meals at hospital. Others patients who were in the same room gave her food. She has resigned herself to return home to await death.
