Little girl begs to keep her leg from being amputated
The family of a five-year-old girl in Hoa Binh Province is calling for financial support to help her treat cancer which may cost her a leg.
The doctors at Hanoi National Cancer Hospital K3 said Hoai Giang is very smart and brave during her treatment. Dinh Thi Thoa, Giang's grandmother said, "She never cried even if she was in pain because she fears that I'll cry too. Her right leg swells up really badly but whenever I asked her, she only said it was only a little pain."
Giang's right thigh is three times bigger than the left because of the tumour. She was diagnosed with the final stages of bone cancer. At first, doctors wanted to keep her leg with chemo and radiotherapy sessions before the surgery. Giang was supposed to have chemotherapy sessions for 18 weeks but it was cut short after nine weeks because of side effects.
It has become difficult to keep her leg.
A doctor from Hanoi National Cancer Hospital said, "She told us, "I want to keep my leg. I don't want it to be cut off."
Giang can't move freely anymore and needs the wheelchair as the tumour gets bigger. She weighs only 20kg after a lot of treatment. Her mother is taking care of their newborn baby so only her grandmother is at the hospital with Giang.
"I feel very scared because we don't have any money left and don't know where to borrow money from," Thoa said.
