Phan Xuan Ky, 10 years old, in Trieu Do Commune, Tien Phong District, has been bed-ridden for months since he was found to contract Adrenoleukodystrophy. 

Ky weighs only 12 kilos

His father Phan Van Bang, 43, said that early last year, he suddenly fainted while coming back home from school. He was then taken to a local hospital, but doctors there couldn’t diagnose his problem.

After that, he was taken to Hue General Hospital. Through many tests, he was diagnosed with Adrenoleukodystrophy.

The treatment was so costly that his parents had to bring him back home. Since then, his condition has become more serious.

The couple continued borrowing more money from different sources to take their son to Hanoi for further examinations. However, doctors there said his condition was very critical and he would face death risk. 

The boy faces death risk

His mother Le Thi Hien, 41, said that he now weighs 12 kilos.

Hue General Hospital sent his tests abroad for analysis for the treatment; however, the chances of him surviving are slim. According to doctors, he could survive when transplanted with stem cells as his condition is too serious for other treatment methods.

The boy’s health has worsened, while his family has been in debt.

His family’s income just depends on farming. His father also tries to earn more by working on a construction site.
