Disabled sisters in need of help
Pham Thi Thuy Mai from Phu Tho Province has struggled to raise her children for 11 years after both of them were diagnosed with cerebral palsy and became disabled.
11-year-old Cao Pham Thuy Duong's arms are deformed and 5-year-old Cao Thuy Dung is losing her vision.
Mai said after Duong was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, she was shocked and scared and waited for five years before having the second child. Doctors didn't detect any problem during the pregnancy but the baby was born prematurely and suffered from birth asphyxia.
"Both of them have cataracts and only Duong has been operated. It hurts me to see Dung's cloudy eyes. She hasn't been able to see the world since she was born," Mai said.
Nguyen Thi Y, head of the residential cluster 3, said, "Mai's family go to hospitals whenever they can borrow money. They constantly have to go to the locality medical stations. Their relatives live far away and are also poor. The neighbours can only help them with some vegetables."
