Brothers in Nghe An Province are nearing the dead, with one with cerebral palsy and another with bone cancer.

Bui Thi Hoa and her son with cerebral palsy

Tran Hung Khanh worked on sugarcane farms had been poisoned during the American War in Dong Ngai around 1980. He was sick constantly and had to return home for treatment. Ten years later, he got married and had a son in 1994. Khanh's son, Tran Hung Thang, was diagnosed with congenital heart disease.

Two years later, he his second son, Tran Hung Loi, was born. But at three years old, he couldn't walk or speak and often screamed all day because of cerebral palsy. The couple borrowed money to bring Loi to several hospitals but his condition worsened. At 22 years old, he still looks like a 7-year-old child and has to depend on his mother for everything since he can't control his bowels.

Tran Hung Giap diagnosed with bone cancer

In 2003, Khanh's third son was born and died after 28 days. No one knew why he died so suddenly. Khanh decided to have another child in 2014, hoping that the child would be healthy.

Khanh's youngest son, Tran Hung Giap, said he felt pain in his right arm last year. At first, no one thought much about it until the pain became unbearable. Doctors at Nghe An Children's Hospital thought it was the inflammation of the bone but when the treatment didn't work, Giap was transferred to Vietnam National Hospital of Paediatrics and was diagnosed with bone cancer.

Giap needs chemotherapy sessions and if his condition doesn't get any better, they may have to amputate his arm.

Khanh's oldest son dropped out of school to find jobs and has to stay home to take care of his brother while his parents take the youngest child to the hospital in Hanoi. The family have already sold everything valuable and borrowed money from neighbours and relatives.

"We’ve already suffered throughout our lives, we don't care. I just want some miracle that can heal our children. We'll die for them if we can," said Bui Thi Hoa, Khanh's wife.
