Ailing couple in Gia Lai in desperate need of help
A disabled man in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai does different jobs to support his family as his wife has been bed-ridden for years.
This is the situation of the couple Ngo Van Hong and Do Thi Tuyet Mai at Hoa Phu Commune, Chu Pah District.
Hong said that in 1985 he was seriously injured by a mine while reclaiming farming land. As a result, he lost both arms and a leg. He has also gone blind in one of his eyes since then.
After his recovery, he tried to find a job, however, he was refused by many companies. Finally, he was hired by a coffee process workshop.
Hong has been done different kinds of jobs in the company to have money ranging from caring for coffee trees to working as an accountant.
In 2006, he met Tuyet Mai and then they got married and had a son. Some years after that, his wife faced stroke and became paralysed. He sold everything valuable in the house for her treatment, but no improvement has been seen.
Every day, he tries to work hard to have money for his wife’s treatment and he still hopes that she would recover some day.
“In the morning, I stay at home to support my wife and take my son to school. I come to work in the afternoon. I often work from midday to 7 pm,” he said.
The couple’s only asset is a dilapidated house with nothing valuable inside.
Local authorities have called for people to help the couple, however, this remained limited.
