Terminally-ill mother calls for help for children
A single mother in Nghe An Province is struggling to take care of two small children while fighting thyroid cancer.
"I don't have money to go to the hospital regularly. I'm just living from day to day," she said. "I left my hometown when I was young to find work. I had hoped to have a full family but it turned out that the man is a drug addict. I left him, returned home and raised my children alone."
When she was diagnosed with cancer, she had to leave the children alone at home to go to Nghe An Oncology Hospital. Thanh's daughter has to learn how to cook and take care of her brother.
They are unable to afford sufficient food to stay healthy. There were also days when they ran out of rice.
Hoa, Thanh's neighbour said, "When their mother went to hospital, the children often didn't have anything to eat. We gave them some fish or meat."
The children don't understand the severity of their mother's illness yet but they know she is tired and in pain.
"When I die, I only hope that they will have a healthy life and go to school," Thanh said.
