When Duong Thi Lan was seven months pregnant, her face and limbs became swollen. When she went to the hospital after coughing blood, the doctor said she had kidney failure. 

Lan struggles with kidney failure

Lan's first child was born prematurely and died hours later. She still hoped to be a mother and followed the treatment carefully. But unfortunately, the second child was also born prematurely at seven months of pregnancy and died hours later. Her husband then divorced her and found a new family while Lan came to Hanoi for treatment.

Lan is living in a five-square-metre rented room in Hanoi and has struggled with the illness for two years. According to her neighbour, Lan's mother has come to Hanoi and worked as a dishwasher to take care of her. However, they haven't been able to borrow money for her kidney dialysis yet.
