This is the 22nd Dantri classroom project at a branch of Na Kieng Nursery School in Lung Kim Village. The VND220m (USD9,400) project includes one classroom and a staffroom.

Nguyen The Nam from Dantri's Department of Communication and Social Work, Vu Dao Minh, deputy head of PetroVietnam’s Department of Oil and Gas Exploitation, representatives of Hoang Long - Hoan Vu JOC, PVGas, and PetroVietnam South West Pipeline Operating Company along with officials from the Bao Lam District Department of Education and Training and Quang Lam Commune People's Committee attended the groundbreaking ceremony on September 9.

In order to reach the school site, everyone had to ride motorbikes for 3km and walked the rest of the way through rough terrain and across streams. There are currently 17 pupils and one teacher who are struggling as Lung Kim School Site has no electricity or fresh water. The classrooms are in very poor condition with temporary timber classrooms. Houses for teachers have not yet been built, so, Ly has to stay in a rundown room near the classrooms.

"In just over the past three months, Dantri Newspaper received many donations from readers to build three classrooms and rooms for staff at Na Kieng Nursery School and Na Kieng Primary School. Today, we'll help build another classroom and staffroom. This also marks the first time Dantri and PetroVietnam work together to help mountainous teachers and pupils," Nguyen The Nam, Dantri's representative said.

Vu Dao Minh, deputy head of PetroVietnam’s Department of Oil and Gas Exploitation, said, "After crossing the tough route to Lung Kim School Site and saw the conditions there, we understand more about the struggles affecting the teachers and pupils and hope that new classroom will help them."

Sam Ngoc Thoa, chairman of Quang Lam Commune, and Sam Thi Diep, headmaster of Na Kieng Nursery School, expressed gratitude to the donors.

On the same day, PetroVietnam also gave supplies to the school and students in a new school year.
