Teachers call for help for poor facilities

Nursery and primary pupils and teachers at Ta Hoc School in Son La Province are in need of financial support to have better facilities.

  

Huts used as classrooms


The children at Pa No School Site, under Ta Hoc Primary School, in Ta Hoc Commune, have to stay at school and live in dilapidated huts from Monday to Friday.

The oldest children are nine years old while many are still in kindergarten. They are from local ethnic minority groups and can't speak Vietnamese. Their parents work in the fields all day and pass by the classrooms sometimes to supply with food.

  

Pupils study in poor condition


A group of three to four children help each other bath and cook the food. There are not many items in those classrooms either and the children rarely have meat to eat.

Luong Thi Lien, a teacher at Pa No School Site, said, "The children mostly eat rice with wild vegetable or bamboo shoots. We don't know what to do."

The school site has over 100 children. 76 live far away so for the weekdays, some live 10km away from the school. As a result, their parents helped built some huts for the children to stay on the weekdays. Pa No School Site has 23 huts. Sisters and brothers of the same family often stay together. Some parents that work nearby help them cook lunch. There is also no toilet or bathroom.

"When I saw the state authorities talked about new industrial revolution, I kept thinking about the lack of many things at the school. The children don't have proper books, clean clothes, meat, proper rooms and roads," Lien said.

Lien said she only wished to build a boarding room for the children to shelter them from natural elements.
