Tran Thi Hoai Thu in Nam Ha Secondary School has been living with the disease for five months. 

Thu is facing with bone cancer

Her mother Ha Thi Kim Vuong, 55, said that the girl felt pains in her left leg and then the thigh became terribly swollen. Doctors at the provincial General Hospital told the family to take Thu to Viet Duc Hospital in Hanoi for further examinations.

According to doctors at Viet Duc Hospital, Thu faces bone cancer, so she needs a long course in radiotherapy.

Since then, she has had to leave school for the treatment at Viet Duc Hospital which is around 150 kilometres from home. It costs her family more than VND10 million (USD454.54) per round of treatment.

After the fourth round of radiotherapy, Thu lost weight and most of her hair.

Thu is the second daughter in her family. After her parents divorced, she and her sister have been living with her mother at relatives' house.

The mother works for a rice shop with a modest salary of VND1.5-2.5 million per month.
