Young man needs help in a lonely battle against cancer
A young man in Nam Dinh Province which is abandoned by his parents is in desperate need of financial support to treat bone cancer.
He was diagnosed with bone cancer nine months ago but without money, he refused to go to hospital and decided to stay home and use herbal medicine. When his situation kept getting worse, the doctors had to cut off his leg.
Dr Nguyen Thi Thuy said, "He goes to the chemotherapy sessions alone. Whenever he had to go to the toilet, felt too weak to go out to buy food, he had to ask for help from other patients' relatives. He also doesn't have health insurance."
Phat said his biological parents all have their own families and his adoptive parents are very old.
"I don't feel comfortable asking for help too much from other patients' relatives. Sometimes, I was really thirsty but also reluctant to ask for help. They also have to take care of their ill family too," he said.
Nguyen Xuan Vang, the head of Cuoi Village, said, "Everyone here knows Phat's tough situation. His parents were divorced when he was in fifth grade. He then becomes a woodcarver but became ill after a while. Our village is also poor and can only help him so much."
