Terminally-ill family seek help for long-term treatment
A family in Thanh Hoa Province is calling for support as both parents and daughter are suffering from cancer.
The 40-year-old father found out he has liver cancer three years ago and his daughter, Vi Thi Hoa, was diagnosed with leukaemia six months later. Misfortune continues to befall on the family as his wife, Lo Thi Tuong, was also diagnosed with thyroid cancer and heart failure one year later.
Tuong said the flood came on September 1. "The water level in Ma River increased dramatically, especially during the night. At 3 am, I woke up and realised that there are cracks on the ground. Our house shook and we ran out as the house was nearly swept away," she said.
They are still living on charity instant noodles and have nothing left to sell. They still owe the bank VND38m after borrowing money to buy a cow and two calves. However, they sold everything when Quang fell ill. His condition is getting worse and he is in the last stage of cancer.
"My husband laid down on the kitchen floor and we don't have money for our daughter's blood dialysis. We don't know what to do," Tuong said.
Vi Van Liem, vice chairman of Ten Tan Commune, said, "The district authorities have plans to support families who lost their homes to the flood. But to a family whose all members are ill like this, it will be a hardship for them."
