Ill young woman faces dead end
A woman from Dong Thap Province is in need of help to treat encephalitis as her family doesn't have money for the hospital charges.
Nguyen Ngoc Thao, Nhung's mother, said her husband died over a year ago after falling ill and didn't have enough money for treatment. All four of her children are poor and went to find work in different provinces and cities.
"At 16 years old, Nhung borrowed another woman's documents to apply for work at a textile company in HCM City. She was in a relationship about three years ago but when she got pregnant, her boyfriend abandoned her. She then returned home to give birth to a daughter," Thao said.
Two months ago, Nhung had headaches and high fever. When she was breastfeeding her daughter, Nhung suddenly had a seizure and was admitted to the hospital. She was released two days later but suffered from memory loss and still had seizures.
She was diagnosed with encephalitis at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in HCM City.
Dr Pham Kieu Nguyen Oanh, said, "When she was admitted, she was nauseous, had seizures and fell into a coma. Testing results show that she has Herpes simplex encephalitis. She has covered a little after two months in the hospital."
Nhung's mother had to borrow money from neighbours and the black market for hundreds of millions of VND. The money is running out but Nhung still has to stay in the hospital for months. They planned to sell their house but couldn't find a buyer because of the remote location.
"I asked doctors to limit her use of the ventilator so that I can bring her home and we'll wait for her end together," Thao said.
