An elderly man in the northern province of Nam Dinh is calling for help when he has to take care of his mother, ailing sister and brothers.

Doan Hong Mon, 73, in Nghia Hung District is now living with his mother who is 95 years old. He is also taking care of one sister, two younger brothers, his aunt and cousin who all have mental problems and often react violently.

Pham Thi Nhon, Mon’s mother, is now bed-ridden and his aunt, who has mental problems, often leaves the house for the day claiming she’s going begging.

Sen’s son Doan Van Ngoc also has mental problems. He visits the neighbours daily and sometimes fails to return home, meaning Sen has to collect him.

According to Mon, his brother Doan Van Nam attacks him the most. He also attacks other family members.

At the end of the day, Mon often has to make the roll call and if anyone missing he has to go out at night in the village and its surroundings to find them.

Mon’s son also died more than one month ago.

Tran Trung Tang from Nghia Lam Commune said that Mon’s family is known as one of the poorest in the locality. He hoped that they could receive some support.
