Dantri/DTiNews readers have donated VND159 million (USD6,913) for a blind man in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai who is struggling to take care of his mother who has cancer.

Truong Dinh Minh, 46, in Hoa Phu Commune, Chu Pah District travels 30 kilometres to Pleiku City to beg every day.

The donation granted to Minh's family

Minh was born blind and is the youngest child in the family. His sisters and brothers all are married and very poor. So no-one can help him and their mother financially.

Minh and his mother Bui Thi Lich, 75, is now living in a small house which has been restored. They still owed money for the house upgrade.

Lich was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2007. The treatment was so costly that her family couldn’t afford it so she returned home for self-treatment.

After the article about their condition was published on Dantri/DTiNews, many people responded.

A newspaper reporter came to their house to hand over the donation witnessed by local authority representatives.
