Mentally-ill family in need of help
A family in Ha Nam Province are in need of financial help to support three members who all have mental problems.
Vu Van Diep, Hue's uncle said, "My brother is mentally ill and all of three his children also suffer from mental illnesses. The eldest daughter, Vu Thi Huong, 33, was introduced to work as a house helper in Hanoi but hasn't been able to send any money home for two years. The second son, Vu Tien Duc, 27, destroys furniture and wanders around when he has a fit."
Hue recently became a single mother at the age of 24 and the family struggles to support daily meals alone with the new member. Their meals often consist of just white rice and vegetables. As a result, Hue doesn't have enough milk for the child. She also doesn't really know how to take care of the child.
In order to avoid Duc's fits, Hue and her child have to move to a new room which used to be a chicken coop.
Vu Van Ba, chairman of Yen Nam Commune, said, "Hue's family is our special case. Currently, only Duc is given a monthly allowance for disabled people. We are submitting proposals for the other family members to have benefits too. I hope the community will help them overcome difficulties."
