Tran Thi Thu Thuong’s family is now living in a small house in Hoa Hai Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District. They now live on modest income from Thuong’s hair salon in their house.

Thuong’s eldest child Nguyen Ngoc Vinh, 29, is struggling with cerebral palsy and epilepsy. He has recently experienced a surgery to remove a tumour on his back.

Meanwhile, the second child Ngo Thi Ha Phuong, 18, who is a high school student is also facing spinal problems. 

Thuong said Vinh was the child of her first marriage. Vinh’s father left home without saying a word when he was small.

After that Thuong remarried and had two daughters. Once again, her second husband also left her and his children. Since then, she has become the family breadwinner.

Since 2013, the family has rented a room at a residential area for local poor households for VND100,000 a month. The house has nothing valuable, except for an old motorbike.

According to Thuong, she has to stay at home to take care of her ailing children, so her friend advised her to open a hair salon at home. But, the house is located in a tiny lane, so they are struggling to attract customers.
