Bang Thi Mai Phuong from Dao ethnic minority group in Cu Sue Commune, Cu M’gar District is taking care of her 12-year-old daughter Vong Thi Thuy at Central Highlands General Hospital.

According to the mother, Thuy has been diagnosed with Thalassemia since she was just one year old. The disease requires frequent blood transfusions.

Phuong has borrowed money from different sources for the treatment. After the divorce four years ago, Phuong sold out everything valuable in her house to cover the treatment for her daughter.

“I’m trying my best to save my daughter,” Phuong said in tears.

Since early this year when Thuy’s condition worsened, she has stayed at hospital for the treatment.

Facing the disease, she is much smaller than her age.

Over the past three months, she has faced more pains with the swollen belly. She can’t lie down on the bed by herself.

Dr. Tran Thi Thuy Minh from Central Highlands General Hospital said that Thuy is now in critical condition with complications related to her heart and bones.
