More than 5,000 people joined a charity walk in Ho Chi Minh City to call for further community support for victims of Agent Orange (AO)/ Dioxin and people with disabilities.

Spreading a message of ‘Forget them not’, the event was held by the Ho Chi Minh municipal Red Cross Society in response to the Action Month for AO victims and people with disabilities.

According to the Chairman of the municipal Red Cross Society, Tran Truong Son, the city is now providing monthly allowances to nearly 4,700 AO/ Dioxin victims and more than 56,600 people with disabilities.

The city’s Red Cross Society has worked out many activities to support these people, including providing healthcare and legal support, constructing houses, presenting scholarships.

Within the programme, the organising board honoured exemplary families of AO/Dioxin victims and outstanding kind-hearted donors who have shared in the pain of underprivileged people.

The same day, the Ninh Binh Provincial Red Cross Association and the provincial Association of AO/Dioxin Victims in coordination with the Hanoi-based Vietnam – Germany Hospital held a charity programme in Thuong Kiem commune, Kim Son district, to present gifts and provide free health check-ups and medicines to 400 local AO/Dioxin victims.

More than 200,000 people in Binh Duong province have recently signed to support Tran To Nga, who is pursuing a lawsuit against US chemical firms to demand justice for Agent Orange (AO)/ Dioxin victims.

To fight for justice for Vietnamese AO victims, in May 2014, Nga, who is a retired reporter of the Vietnam News Agency, filed a lawsuit against 26 US chemical firms for producing chemical toxins sprayed by the US army in the war in Vietnam.
