Dantri/DTiNews Newspaper has helped to build two new classrooms for ethnic minority students in the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau.

The breaking-ground ceremony for the classrooms sponsored by Apax English Centre was launched on Thursday.

The new classrooms, which are part of Nam Han Primary School in Nam Lot Village, Sin Ho District, Lai Chau Province, will replace temporary classes which are now in a very bad condition.

The breaking-ground ceremony for the classrooms

Earlier in April this year, a group of 14 outstanding students from Apax English Centre and Dantri/DTiNews reporters came to visit Nam Han Primary School’s branch in Nam Lot Village. During the stay there, they understood more about local pupils’ difficulties, particularly their poor classrooms.

The trip encouraged the Apax students to do something to support the pupils in Nam Lot. Early May this year, the centre held Apax Happy Run to call for donation to build new classrooms in the locality. As a result, VND600 million was donated for the project.

The road to Nam Lot Village is very challenging with being full of mud after recent torrential rains. It took the delegation of Dantri/DTiNews and Apax representatives up to more than four hours to reach the village for the ground-breaking ceremony on Thursday.

At the event, Journalist Can Manh Cuong said that over the past 15 years, Dantri/DTiNews has supported around 4,500 poor and disadvantaged people. The newspaper has also helped to build dozens of bridges and classrooms in remote areas besides offering scholarships for poor students with good study results.

On this occasion, ALP Logistics Joint Stock Company gave two bags of cake and 300 boxes of pens for local pupils and residents.

Luong Van Tai, chairman fo Sin Ho Commune, expressed his great thanks to the donation which would encourage local children to go to school.

Nam Han has 76 households with 400 people being Dao ethnic monitory. Previously, children had to walk for 10 kilometres to school in the commune centre.

“With the new classrooms, children in Nam Lot will not have to go far to school,” Tai added.

According to Lam Minh Phuoc, Marketing Director of Apax English Centre, Apax considered charitable activities as an important part in the centre’s operations. In the coming time, the centre would continue supporting children and pupils in Nam Lot with tables and chairs as well as many meaningful gifts.
