Little girl overcomes ovarian cancer
A 10-year-old girl in Dak Nong Province has recovered after a time struggling with cancer thanks to donations from Dantri readers.
After their story was published, Dantri readers donated VND300m (USD13,000) for Phuong's treatment.
"That time, we got nothing and our debt collector kept calling," said Phuong's mother, Pham Thi Hien. "Your encouragements and support are what saved her."
The surgery was a success and the tumour was contained. Phuong also recovered quickly afterwards.
Phuong used to write everything including her pain and bleak thoughts in her diary. Now Phuong has had a new diary for happy days. When she is in pain because of the illness, she still writes in the old diary but she calls cancer a "friend" that she has to play with every day.
Phuong's mother is also surprised at her strength. Sometimes, Phuong actually became her mother's support while Phuong still had to live in the HCM City Oncology Hospital. Hien said Phuong was the most severe case but her strength and optimism helped her fight the illness while many other children were less fortunate.
"I finally can go to school. I will work hard to make my dreams come true. Now I only have to go to the hospital for a few days then I can go to school again," Phuong said.
