A nine-year-old girl in the northern province of Phu Tho who was abandoned by her parents and underwent brain surgery has received donations of VND210 million (USD9,130) from the community.

The donation followed an article about her family’s condition published on Dantri/DTiNews Newspaper.

Bao Thy is now staying at Phu Tho General Hospital after the surgery for her brain tumour.

The donation granted to the girl

Her father left home without saying a word when she was just 15 days old. When she was one her mother then left to go to the southern province of Tay Ninh to remarry. Since then, she has been living with her poor maternal grandmother.

In the middle of last year, she fell into a coma and was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Her grandmother had to borrow money from different sources to save her from critical condition, but left her in a precarious financial situation.

Thanks to donations from the public, the child underwent a third operation and to date, her health has much improved.

Doctors said that Bao Thy can come back to school but can return to hospital in a month.

Her grandmother used VND41 million (USD1,782) to help seven other poor patients in the hospital.

Pham Tien Chung, deputy director from the hospital, said he himself was quite surprised at Bao Thy’s recovery. He expressed his great thanks to Dantri/DTiNews and the donors for supporting the girl who was on the verge of death.
