Dinh Thi Yen, 29, from Tam Duong District’s Duy Phien Commune was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016.

Yen said that after being informed of the disease, her husband, who is two years old younger than her, abandoned her and their two small sons, one aged five and the other aged eight.
The woman tried to contact him many times, but failed. Even, his relatives do not know where he is now.
Since then, Yen has come to K Hospital in Hanoi for the treatment by herself. Her sons are living with their poor maternal grandmother in Phu Tho. Yen’s father also left home without saying a word since she was small.

Yen is often supported by other patients' relatives, particularly Nguyen Thi Hoa, 55, who considers Yen as her daughter.
“Poor Yen! Her condition is critical, but no one takes care of her. We always try to encourage her to continue the treatment,” Hoa said.
According to doctor Dong Chi Kien from the hospital, despite having health insurance, Yen still has to pay for medicines which are not covered by insurance, which are quite costly.
