A mother in Phu Yen Province and her son have received over VND200m (USD8,600) in donations to treat cancer and heart failure.

Le Thi Kim Chung, vice chairwoman of Hoa Thang Commune People's Committee, (L) transferred the money to Nhung

Nhung has to several radiotherapy sessions but she can't stay at home to rest since she and her husband still have to work to treat their eldest son who is deaf, mute and has congenital heart disease. Their second son was slower than other children.

Dantri readers donated to the family VND91,950,000 after the story was published. A week later, the readers continued to donate another VND125,660,000. Le Thi Kim Chung, vice chairwoman of Hoa Thang Commune People's Committee, transferred the money to Nhung on November 29.

Nhung said many people have visited her and gave her VND8m directly. She has deposited all of the money to treat the whole family.

"We'll only use the money for the treatment and we still work hard to pay for daily needs like food," she said.

The woman shared that some readers even sent herbal medicines for free. In December, she'll bring her eldest son to HCM City for a health-check. After paying for hospital treatment, she will use a part of the money to fix the house which is deteriorating badly.

"I couldn't believe it when I was told that we were donated again. We have never dreamt of having such a large amount of money. I just want my children to be healthy again and we'll tell them about the kindness that we've received," she said. "I want to send my deepest gratitude to everyone that helped us."

Le Thi Kim Chung said they were glad to see one of the difficult cases in their area had received help and expressed gratitude to the readers.

"We also hope that Nhung's family will overcome difficulties and have a better future," she said.
