Mother calls for help for small son
A woman in Dong Thap Province is calling for financial support to help cover medical treatment for her small son with a tumour on his face.
"When Thien was nearly one year old, a bump suddenly appeared on his nose. The doctors proposed to remove the bump but we didn't have enough money then so we brought him home and use herbal medicines," she said.
But one month later, the bump got bigger and bigger by the day and caused severe pain when it was at the size of mandarin orange. Due to the size of the bump, Thien was transferred to the HCM City Oncology Hosptial. Nhung borrowed everywhere for VND20m and went with her son to HCM City.
"When he was admitted, pus was oozing out and it looked horrifying. The doctors said he was in critical condition and might die anytime if he didn't react well to the medicines. I was scared but I had no other choice," Nhung said.
Luckily, Thien reacted well to the first dose and his condition got better. Nhung continued borrowing more money to continue his treatment. Thien still needed five more doses but the money already ran out. Nhung said she couldn't borrow anyone anymore.
"I and my son stay at the hospital. I can't go to work. My husband is a boatman and earns VND200,000-VND400,000 per trip. Sometimes he does two trips a day but sometimes, there is no trip and no money for a week," she said.
Nhung said she was afraid that the tumour would grow again and torture her child.
"When he couldn't talk, he kept crying and crying. Now he keeps telling me that it really hurts. I can't bear it, I wish I could take the pain for him," she said.
