Family struggles against illnesses

A sick family in Bac Giang Province are in desperate need of financial support to help cover medical treatment.

Hoang Thi Linh's family live in a small house in Xuong Lam Commune, Lang Giang District. At their house, Linh's husband, Ngo Dinh Trinh, lies on the floor after having a seizure.

"I know he had an accident in 2006 and often has seizures but we love each other and got married. When I was pregnant, I suddenly had many tumours all over my body. Doctors said I had nerve tumours. I haven't go to the hospital again because of poverty," Linh said.

Unfortunately, at 8 months old, her daughter had a weight loss and swelling of the face. She was later diagnosed with temporal lobe tumour and her skull has been deformed. She has been brought to various hospitals including Bach Mai Hospital, National Children's Hospital and National Cancer Hospital in Hanoi.

Linh borrowed from the bank VND20m and VND30m from relatives and neighbours but the money ran out quickly. Her daughter couldn't go to the hospital for six months.

Tran Thanh Hao, a state employee at Xuong Lam District People's Committee, said they were also trying to raise fund for Linh's family but most people in the mountainous area are poor to help. They hope to get more help so that Linh's family will overcome the difficult times.
