Ngan's family receives the donation

Bui Thi Kim Ngan is being treated at Vietnam-Germany Hospital in Hanoi. Both Ngan and her brother have been living with Thalassemia for over 10 years. In May, Ngan's condition suddenly worsened and she fainted regularly.

According to doctors at Vietnam-Germany Hospital, Ngan is coping up with a thoracic aortic aneurysm which requires urgent surgery to save her but her family couldn't afford the VND400m (USD17,391) operation.

Many people have donated to Ngan after reading about her story. On June 18, after five hours, the operation led by Dr Nguyen Huu Uoc, a leading doctor in cardiologist - thoracic department, was successful. He said, "This was a difficult case because she is still small and she also had a systemic infection. We did our best and used hi-tech equipment."

Ngan's mother said many people had called and gave them VND100m directly in the past three days. "My daughter can live again. I don't know what to say but thank you," she said.

On June 18, the representative of Dantri visited Ngan and transferred VND200m donated by readers to the family.

Nguyen Thi Phuong from the hospital's social work office thanked the readers who helped Ngan.
