Little boy with two types of cancer in need of help
A couple in Ha Tinh Province is calling for financial support to help save their small son from cancer.
Nguyen Manh Cam, Nguyen's father, said, "In May last year when Nguyen was one-week-old, he suddenly had a high fever, vomited and swelled belly. The doctors at the National Children Hospital said he had enteritis and pulmonary atrophy.
After five months, his health barely improved so he was transferred to Hue Central Hospital where he was diagnosed with leukaemia. Nguyen had three therapy sessions in just 28 days as his condition is serious. At one year old, Nguyen weighed only 9kg and can't sit up.
Le Thi Thuy Trang, Nguyen's mother, said she felt scared whenever the condition of other patients in the room got worse. Their whole family depend on Cam's little income as the bricklayer and from other odd jobs and their oldest daughter has to live with grandparents.
They had put up their house as collateral for VND400m (USD17,300) but it was only enough for five months. They then borrowed VND200m to buy medicines. Nguyen still needs at least four more therapy sessions but they don't have anything left.
Unfortunately, Nguyen was also diagnosed with bone marrow cancer. At this point, the family will need nearly VND1bn (USD43,000) to save Nguyen. The hospital said they would support Nguyen but the family will still need to pay VND400m.
"I don't know what to do," Trang said.
