Ill woman faces uncertain future
A woman in Hanam Province is calling for financial support to treat ovarian cysts.
Trinh Thi Loan lives with her ill mother in Trai Village. Loan's father was an Agent Orange victim and died when Loan was three years old. For 40 years, Loan and her mother had to depend on their monthly allowance of VND400,000 to live by.

Ten years ago, Loan's belly swelled up while she kept becoming thinner. After being told that she had a small tumour, she decided to keep it a secret and didn't tell anyone. As her belly got bigger, she was brought to Phu Ly Hospital and later transferred to the National Institute of Haematology & Blood Transfusion and Heart Hospital for tests and to the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology for surgery.
The tumour which weighed 6kg and was 30cm wide was removed from her body. But a few days later, she was told that she had to return to the hospital because of ovarian cysts. When they went to the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology, they only brought VND1m (USD43) but the admission charge was VND1.6m. Loan then decided to go home and wait.
"I just felt so sad. I can't afford anymore treatment. If I go to the hospital, my mother and I will incur a huge debt and I think I will still die anyway. I might as well die sooner," she said.
Trinh Thi Nu, Loan's mother, is blind in one eye and too weak to work. She said, "We have nothing but a dog and a cow. If my daughter dies, I'll die with her. What's left to live then? I don't know what to do."
Le Van Hoan, vice head of Thach To Village, said, "Loan's family is one of the difficult cases in our area. We hope kind people will help them overcome this hard time."
