Dantri readers support flood victims in central region

Thousands of Dantri readers nation-wide including organisations and individuals have sent donations to support victims of the on-going flooding disaster which is ravaging the central region.

The central region has been struggling with torrential rains and flooding over the past few days with Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue being hardest hit.

According to the latest report by the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, 28 people have died and 12 remained missing. Over 130,400 houses have been damaged or flooded, thousands of poultry and cattle have died so far.


The three provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue are seeking government support of 4,000 tonnes of rice, 10,000 packets of instant noodles, two tonnes of dry provisions and 110 tonnes of seeds of different kinds, along with sterilisation chemicals and rescue equipment.


A man in Thua Thien-Hue cries after his pregnant wife was swept away while on the way to the hospital on October 12. The wife was later found dead.


The National Centre for Hydrometeorology Forecasting has announced a new storm is coming and would affect the northern and northern central localities from October 14-16.
