Six-year-old boy could lose limb after traffic accident
A family in Hai Phong Province are calling for financial help to cover medical treatment for their son who was injured in a traffic accident.
Do Thi Huyen, Viet's mother said the accident occurred when she picked Viet up from school on November 19. Their motorbike hit another motorbike which left Huyen and Viet both fallen on the road. Unfortunately, a farm vehicle was very close to them at the time. It couldn't brake in time and crushed Viet's arm.
"I screamed and fainted after seeing his arm. Other people helped bring us to the hospital," Huyen said.
After two weeks at the hospital, Viet's family spent over VND100m (USD4,300) despite having health insurance. The doctors are working hard to save Viet's arm. Viet's grandmother suffers from lung cancer. After the accident, her treatment was nearly halted as money ran out. Huyen said she had borrowed anywhere she could think of and she was at a loss. Doctors said Viet still had to go through some more operations.
Dr Ngo Hai Son said, "We have to use new technology and medicines, many of which are not covered by health insurance. We hope that the public will help them overcome this difficult time."
