Almost 50 floating houses have been completed for low-income people in flood-prone areas in Minh Hoa District, Quang Ngai Province.

The VND1.5bn (USD64,600) Dantri Floating-house Village Project has been funded by donations from many readers to help residents in the flood-prone areas in Quang Ngai deal with natural disasters. Construction was started on November 21 with 35 houses in Minh Hoa Commune and 15 houses in Tan Hoa Commune.

With the floating houses, local people will be able to protect their belongings and have a higher chance of survival when facing severe flooding. Each floating house is about 15 square metres. It can accommodate six to eight people at the same time with their belongings and pets or cattle.

The houses are anchored to the ground. When the water arrives, the houses will rise with the water up to 6-8 metres.

The project will be completed in the next two days and transferred to the residents.
