10-year-old boy struggles against leukaemia
A family in Can Tho Province is calling for financial support to save their son from leukaemia.
Tuan felt ill and noticed some lumps on his chest when he started fourth grade. His mother fainted upon knowing he was diagnosed with leukaemia.
Nguyen Thi Hue, Tuan's mother, said, "I know he was in pain because of the chemotherapy treatment. He was nauseous and couldn't eat much, but he never cried."
Hue and her husband, Nguyen Van Hai, are both freelance workers and do not have a stable income. At 42 years old, Hai already had a stroke and heart failure. Doctors advised him against hard labour but Hai kept doing any work he could find to support his family.
Hue earns about VND200,000 (USD8) a day. As of now, the family already borrowed over VND90m (USD3,913) which already ran out.
Dr Cao Hoang Minh said without treatment, Tuan may only be able to live for six months. Tuan appears to respond well to the treatment and there's a high chance that he will survive. It will be a shame if the family stops the treatment.
Nguyen Tri Thua, head of the Residential Cluster 6 in Hung Thanh Ward, said, "We have visited and called for help for him but it's not enough. We hope Tuan will get more help from the community."
