Dantri/DTiNews has sent hundreds of millions of VND to support an elderly woman and her two small grandchildren who lost their parents in Bac Lieu Province.

Thi and Thao receive the donation

Dantri representatives in Bac Lieu, leaders of the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Red Cross Organisation in Vinh Loi District and the police in Bac Lieu visited and transferred VND150,230,000 (USD6,500) to Trinh Yen Thi and Trinh Phuong Thao's family.

Thi and Thao's mother died suddenly four years ago and their father died in January, leaving behind a huge debt. Thi and Thao live with their 80-year-old grandmother in a dilapidated house and depend on relatives and neighbours' kindness to live by.

Thi is the eldest child and in 9th grade. After the deaths of their parents, she became the pillar of the family. Thi said she didn't want to quit school because she wanted a good job to take care of her grandmother and sister but the future was uncertain.

After their story was published, many people have called and visited them and gave them over VND50m (USD2,100) directly. The local Fatherland Front Committee also donated to Thi and Thao VND50m. Thanks to the support, a new VND100m house was built.

The family and local organisations and authorities all agreed to deposit VND100m (USD4,300) into the Social Policy Bank.

Nguyen Van Cu, vice chairman of Chau Thoi Commune People's Committee thanked everyone who helped Thi and Thoi's family to overcome difficult times.
