On March 25, a reporter from the newspaper’s representative office in HCM City granted VND243 million (USD10,565) to the boy’s family.

Nam’s mother Le Thi Hong Tuyet said that the family is still waiting for the boy’s test results to determine the treatment regime.

She had to get high-interest loans for the treatment. Over recent days, she has faced great pressure from her creditors.

She said that thanks to the donation from Dantri/DTiNews readers, she can repay part of the loans. She has also decided to use part of the donations to open a small shop to earn money.

According to Tuyet, her son’s condition has recently worsened with weekly fevers. He has lost much weight and seen tumours on the scruff of the neck.

His family are currently bed-ridden, so his parents can’t afford his treatment.

Thanh Nam was previously hospitalised every 1-2 months, but now the pains appear every one to two weeks. However, the treatment remains beyond the family’s reach.
