Elderly women struggle to take care of grandchildren
Two elderly women from the Khmer ethnic group in An Giang Province are still having to work to earn their living and take care of grandchildren who are abandoned by their parents.

Both of them have weak health but they are still doing everything they can to take care of two children who were abandoned by their parents since birth. Kum sells steamed rice cake with palm sugar for a living.
Kum's daughter and son went to Cambodia years ago and never return, leaving two children in their care.
"They left when the children were just born. When strangers visited and asked them whether they remember their parents, they all shook their heads," Kum said.
Both children dropped out of school after the first grade so they do not know how to read and write. They help Kum selling the cakes at the market. The family is too poor to buy new clothes for them.
Truong Dong Xuan, vice chairman of Co To Town People's Committee, said, "Soc Triet is a poor hamlet so the tuition fees for both children were waived. But because of poverty, Cao and Kum can hardly pay for their daily expenses. The local authorities also visited and helped them during holidays and special occasions. We hope they will get more help from the public."
Cao and Kum are given a monthly allowance of VND270,000 (USD12) for elderly people. They were also given necessities by charity groups on some occasions.
