Dak Nong woman in need of help to raise small grandchildren
A woman in Dak Nong Province is calling for financial support to help raise her two small grandchildren.
According to Hai, after getting a divorce 15 years ago, she and her daughter travelled everywhere to earn money and finally settled in Dak Nong. "We had nothing then. When we moved here in 2009, we did odd jobs during the day and found a place at the market to sleep at night," she said.
Hai doesn't know who the father of her grandchildren is. Because of poverty, her daughter left them when the two babies were only a few months old.
"Pieces of the rooftops often fall down. I'm worried that the house may collapse at any time," she said. "A few months ago, I fell sick and couldn't get up so my grandchildren had to go out and beg for food. What will happen if I die?"
Hoang Thi Thu Trang, Hai's granddaughter, said she couldn't remember the face of her mother anymore. "My grandmother and brother are my treasures. I'll take care of my grandmother when I grow up."
Tran Khac Dung, chairman of Thuan An Commune People's Committee, said that they could only help Hai and her grandchildren so much and hoped that they would get more help from the community.
