Dantri readers have helped build two houses for two poor families in Dinh Hoa District, Thai Nguyen Province, that worth over VND300m (USD13,000).

VND109,979,154 (USD4,700) transferred to the family of Duong Van Cuong

On July 28, the representatives of the Fatherland Front Committee in Dinh Hoa visited and transferred VND109,979,154 (USD4,700) to the family of Duong Van Cuong.

Nguyen Thi Nam, Cuong's grandmother, thanked the readers for helping them after their old house was severely damaged in an unusual bad storm in May. The construction of the new house, which is over 30 square metres with an estimated cost of VND120m (USD5,200), was started on July 23. The construction materials were donated by a local charity group. The youth union and other villagers will help build the house.

Duong Anh Tuan, Cuong's son, was electrocuted 10 days ago and admitted to Thai Nguyen General Hospital. Thanks to the help from readers, Tuan has recovered and been discharged.

On July 25, with the help from readers and the authorities of Diem Mac Commune, the construction of a new house for La Thi Tho was also started.

VND322,226,252 transferred to the family of La Thi Tho

The new house is 60 square metres and has an estimated cost of VND200m (USD8,600). Tho said the family received a total of VND322m from Dnatri readers and VND50m from an anonymous donor.

"I still think that I'm dreaming. A student called me and said he would give me his pocket money," Tho said.

Tho suffers from congenital heart disease while her five-year-old son has hemolytic anaemia. After a failed marriage, she and her son returned to her hometown and lived in a dilapidated house. Tho said when it rained, bugs and animals would enter the house. Sometimes, there were snakes too.

Vi Thi Thuan, vice chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Dinh Hoa District, said, "Thanks to the help of everyone, the families of Tho and Cuong are able to have a new house. I believe it will become a motivation to work hard for a better future."
