Little boy in need after losing mother to Covid-19
A little boy and his grandmother have called for help to overcome difficulties after losing two family members to Covid-19.
Five-year-old Le Gia Phat left for HCM City with his mother, brother and grandparents four years ago after his parents went bankruptcy and his father was sent to prison. The family wanted to find better opportunities in the big city. But when Covid-19 broke out, Phat's mother, Nguyen Hong Phuong, became unemployed and the whole family depended on his grandfather's modest income as a company guard. His seven-year-old brother was then sent to live with their paternal grandmother in Can Tho City.

Unfortunately, his whole family tested positive for Covid-19 and quarantined. Phat was discharged first and had to live with his aunt.
Phat kept asking for his mother and grandparents but no one could tell when they could go home. One day, Phat suddenly looked at the phone and cried, "My mother had probably died."

Phat's grandmother said she was helpless.
"My husband's employer let us stay at their 10-square-metre guard room for the time being," said Phat's grandmother, Huynh Thu Chien. "Phat's school is now teaching online but I can't afford it for him. I don't know what to do."
Huynh Cong Minh, head of the Residential Cluster 5, Tan Thoi Nhat Ward, District 12 said they had visited and helped with some food and necessities. "We have called for other people to help them," he said.
